Nova Scotia Grave Stone – Benjamin Jarvis – Cornwallis Township

A wonderful old gravestone of one of the Annapolis Valley pioneers.

Benjamin Jarvis – St Edward’s Cemetery

Who was William Jarvis? Very little is written about Benjamin.

This cemetery contains Planters and Loyalists (an interesting mix), but I cannot find much information about the town (Cornwallis) that was the Planter settlement in the 1760’s, after the Acadian expulsion.

Looking at Cornwallis on Google Earth gets the imagination running. Cornwallis Town, in and of itself, ultimately failed as a community (as did Horton, Falmouth, Newport it seems). Nothing remains, and unless you knew what to look for, you wouldn’t know that a planned town was established across from Wolfville, NS.

A very interesting grave stone – a kinder and gentle ‘Angel of Death’ at the top.
